It is often said that all good things must come to an end.

Sooner or later, financial viability, time constraints or other pressures may give rise to the sale, merger or closure of businesses, or the suspension or cancellation of projects big and small.

It is often difficult to prevent an emotional response when one is personally involved with the business or project, especially when one has invested considerable energy, money and time into making such a business or project successful.

It is therefore with a heavy heart that I must announce today that the Alan W Collins network of websites will be closing down.

The View from Medway – the website where it all started in December 2006 – will be closing as both an active and an archive website. In time, a free eBook will be published containing some of the best of the 1,299 articles featured over the past five-and-a-half years.

Democracy in Practice – the exciting project launched in June 2011 – has been plagued by technical difficulties which have become too time consuming to rectify. This will be closing immediately.

Alan W Collins – the personal website – will remain as a personal homepage, and will also serve as the location for occasional opinion articles.

It has been a thoroughly enjoyable five-and-a-half years, and I would like to thank everyone who has visited, contributed to and supported the network during that time.
