Still time to sponsor Alan

As most of you are no doubt aware, there are now just six days until Birmingham and Beyond‘s Founding Editor Alan W Collins “runs” the Great Birmingham Run, in aid of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital!

The 13.1 mile course starts and finishes in the city centre, taking 15,000 runners past many local sites of interest, including Cadbury World and the Warwickshire County Cricket Club stadium at Edgbaston.

Alan is taking part this year, despite previously being known for driving a 5-minute walk to buy a packet of cigarettes! It will be a huge challenge, not least because he will be “running” dressed as Mickey Mouse!

Of course there is a very worthwhile reason for this. He is “running” to raise money for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, who treat over 225,000 sick children from across the UK every year!

He is “running” for people like Laura, a 14 year-old girl who has spent all but six months of her life as a Birmingham Children’s Hospital patient.

He is “running” for people like Hannah, who at just 9 weeks old, underwent an operation to remove cataracts from both of her eyes.

He is “running” for people like Millie, who received Haemodialysis treatment from the Birmingham Children’s Hospital 4 times per week after an E-Coli infection left her with permanent kidney damage at the age of 18 months.

He is “running” for every child receiving treatment from the Birmingham Children’s Hospital every day.

But he cannot “run” without you!!

Would you be willing to sponsor any amount of money of your choosing to go to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital? Alan has set a target of £500, and with your help, we can beat it!

It is quick and simple to sponsor online through JustGiving.

Or get in touch with for other ways of sponsoring!

There will no doubt be plenty of photographs doing the rounds after the run, and you may even be able to catch a glimpse of Alan when the run is shown live on Channel Five on Sunday morning!

Thank you to those of you who have already sponsored and supported Alan for the Great Birmingham Run!
